I set up my own management consulting business in 1978. Prior to that I held senior training, human resources and employee development roles in education, mining, retailing and IT.
Business Focus
My core business is helping managers in small-medium business to improve the day to day on job performance of their staff so that they
- Make a significant contribution to the success of the business
- Accept responsibility for the day to day running of the business.
- Find their work to be both stimulating, satisfying and rewarding
- Make the manager’s life far less stressful and much more enjoyable.
This has been my business focus since 1994.
Why Small-Medium Business?
I chose to focus on small-medium business in 1994 because
- I’d had a longstanding interest in small-medium business
- In Australia, about 43% of all employees in the private sector work in businesses with 20 or fewer employees
- Some 70% work in businesses with fewer than 200 employees
- Most development and training material for managers in these businesses is merely “dumbed down” from courses and development activities designed for large business
- I can offer an alternative to attending “management training” courses even if you can afford the time and money to attend.
- Small-medium business is unique. It’s not an infant, childhood or teenage version of big business
- Managing people in small-medium business requires very special skills and mindsets
- As a small-medium business manager, you need a practical resource that you can use in your own time at your own pace
Product
From 1994 I started producing staff management material such as CDs, Special Reports, text/audio and self instructional texts for managers in small-medium business.
In April 2008, I decided to move my successful offline business online. I revised all my material and reproduced it as 6 major eBooks. I’ve produced 9 new specialist eBooks and 6 checklists since then too.
A Different Perspective
My views on staff performance don’t follow mainstream bureaucratic practices. I enthusiastically support the small-medium business manager such as you, as you seek to grow your business and create jobs. Successful small-medium business is extremely important to the national economy.

A Personal Story
Before I started my business over 40 years ago my accountant asked me a question. He was very conservative in his views. He was also a non smoker, non drinker who thought a fine meal was fried fish and chips. He was also wealthy and successful.
He asked me why I wanted my own business. I said “to make money”. He replied “Don’t be silly, Leon. Anyone can make money. Work out what you’d really like to be able to do that you can’t do now. Run your business for that reason.”
That remains as one of the best pieces of advice that I’ve ever received.
